Installing the CygNet ODBC Driver

For most situations, use the CygNet Client Installer to install a CygNet ODBC driver. 32-bit ODBC drivers are located in the SUPPORT group in the APPS service. 64-bit ODBC drivers are located in the SUPPORT64 group in the APPS service. The 32-bit and 64-bit ODBC drivers differ in some significant ways. See the sections below that are specific to the kind of ODBC driver you require.

Version management of the ODBC driver is performed when a CygNet application that uses the driver is started or when the ODBC driver is selected from the Start menu shortcut. The ODBC driver is not version managed when non-CygNet applications that use the driver are opened, such as Microsoft Access.

Installing the 32-Bit CygNet ODBC Driver

The 32-bit CygNet ODBC driver operates on both 32-bit and 64-bit machines. All ODBC files are found in the Support\ODBC directory. The application opens with the SQL command line (ODBCISQL.exe).

The ODBC drivers have two configuration (.ini) files that are used to set configuration options. They are OASQL.ini and OADM.ini; the settings in these files are specific to the computer. The 32-bit OASQL.ini file is located in C:\CygNet\Support\ODBC and the OADM.ini file is located in C:\CygNet\Support\ODBC\cfg.

If you install the 32-bit ODBC driver on a 64-bit operating system, it only supports the use of a 32-bit DSN and 32-bit applications. Use the odbcad32.exe located in Windows\SysWOW64 (not Windows\System32\odbcad32.exe) to create a 32-bit DSN. DSNs configured by the C:\Windows\SysWOW64\odbcad32.exe utility are unavailable to 64-bit applications.

Installing the 64-Bit CygNet ODBC Driver

The 64-bit CygNet ODBC driver operates only on 64-bit machines. All ODBC files are found in the Support64\ODBC directory. The application opens with the SQL command line (ODBCISQL.exe).

The ODBC drivers have two configuration (.ini) files that are used to set configuration options. They are OASQL.ini and OADM.ini; the settings in these files are specific to the computer. The 64-bit OASQL.ini file is located in C:\CygNet\Support64\ODBC and the OADM.ini file is located in C:\CygNet\Support64\ODBC\cfg.

Use the odbcad32.exe located in Windows\System32 (not SysWOW64) to create a 64-bit DSN. DSNs configured by the C:\Windows\System32\odbcad32.exe utility are unavailable to 32-bit applications.
